What: The American Heart Association will host its 25th annual Long Island Heart Walk; a 3.1 mile non-competitive walk held at beautiful Jones Beach. Approximately 4,000 participants from over 70 corporations and the community walk to raise funds to support research, education, and advocacy of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Participants will enjoy free health screenings, heart health information, interactive activities, family fun, refreshments, and live entertainment in a casual, fun environment.
Why: Heart disease and stroke are the #1 and #5 causes of death in the U.S., killing nearly one million people each year. On average, heart disease claims the lives of over 44,981 New York residents each year and stroke claims the lives of over 6,213 residents. Participant donations make an extraordinary impact on the community by investing in education and prevention programs, advocacy initiatives, and cutting edge scientific research which SAVES LIVES.
