The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, announces the formation of a Pet Food Pantry to assist families with pets in need in our community. Pets are an integral part of the family unit, especially in times of crisis and ARF is committed to providing cat and dog food to those who need it.
In recent months, the COVID-19 pandemic has created a growing demand for such assistance. With unemployment at an all-time high and local families unsure of the future, ARF realizes that feeding the family pet(s) could easily become a financial burden for many.
In an effort to keep pets in their homes and kick-start the Pet Food Pantry, ARF will hold a pet food drive on Saturday, July 11 from 12 – 3 PM at the ARF Adoption Center. ARF cannot accept donations on other days due to limitations of space and staffing.
Only unopened food and treats for cats and dogs (dry and wet) and treats will be accepted. Pet food drop off dates will be held monthly throughout the fall (dates TBD). ARF friends and supporters, as well as other community members are encouraged to donate to their neighbors that are less fortunate.
Families in need will be encouraged to pick up from the Pet Food Pantry at the ARF Adoption Center on Saturday, July 18 from 12 - 3 PM. Pet food distribution will be also held monthly throughout the fall (dates TBD). Pick up will available for any member of the local community, while supplies last. Recipients will only be asked how many cats and dogs are in the household in order to supply enough food until the next distribution date.
Social distancing will be observed, and we request visitors to ARF wear masks whether dropping off or picking up food.
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic it became clear, that the area food pantries had an overwhelming response (and still do) for assistance and pet food was greatly needed. To help, ARF scheduled a one day only pet food drive on Saturday, April 25 and in a short few hours two cargo vans were filled full of cat and dog food. All the food collected on that one day has since been distributed to the East Hampton, Montauk and Sag Harbor Food Pantries. All groups were extremely grateful for the donation.
ARF has elected to oversee the distribution of donations in order to expand the reach of the program to all residents of the Town of East Hampton and spare local food pantries the burden of transport and storage.
The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons’ mission is to actively rescue cats and dogs and provide quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. Founded in 1974, ARF is a leading animal rescue and adoption center on Long Island. Out of responsibility for the health of our animals, staff, and the community, the ARF Adoption Center remains open by appointment only. Interested adopters can start the process by completing an application online at arfhamptons.org/adoptions.
