HONORING CHARLES MEADOWS
Charles Meadows, owner of Mead- ows Auto Trends, is a proud father of two children: Nicholas, age 6, and Jackson, age 2. He and his wife, Toni Ann, enrolled Nicholas at NIS at the age of 3, at the recommendation of the Rocky Point School District, and upon being introduced to our school, Charles immediately indicated he was in- terested in helping the school however he could. Shortly after, he joined the NIS Golf Committee, and helped bring raffle prizes, sponsors, and attendees to our outing. He also helped out with other school fundraisers, and joined our sensory garden planning committee. He has volunteered countless hours helping NIS achieve its mission, and has continued to do so despite his son graduating. He attributes much of Nicholas’s academic success to the foundation he received in his early years at NIS, and is thankful for all the enhancements his son was able to receive while attending NIS, including adaptive horseback riding, swimming, Pet Pals animal assisted intervention, and respite. He is humbled to receive the much deserved recognition for his volunteerism as this year’s golf honoree.
ABOUT NEW INTERDISCIPLINARY SCHOOL
The New Interdisciplinary School was founded in December 1976 by parents, community members and staff who believed in the rights of:
Children to grow and learn in a supportive, responsive environment.
Parents to have a voice in their children’s education.
Staff to flourish in an atmosphere of academic and intellectual freedom.
In July 1977 NIS received New York State Education approval as a program for the education of preschool children with disabilities from birth to 5 years of age. On August 1, 1977, NIS officially opened its doors at 1 Scouting Boulevard, Medford.
The name “New Interdisciplinary School” was chosen to describe the integration of a team of professionals from a variety of disciplines. This team approach along with a partnership with parents forms the basis for providing a comprehensive program.
On October 19, 1995, we opened a state-of-the-art building in Yaphank. The programs have expanded to include child care, nursery school, universal pre-kindergarten (UPK), and inclusion classes for children with and without disabilities.
